We focused our development efforts on "conductivity and lubrication." Even with Mach Dash, only about 5 minutes of break-in work is required *depending on the individual motor. Break-in Method [ Items Needed ] Dash series motor (Brand new or lightly used) PLM LUBRICANTS Break-in Oil (NEO Motor Oil CONQUEROR) Liquid cleaner (Plastic-safe / Non-damaging to resin. Avoid aerosol/spray types as they can cause internal condensation.) Power supply or battery case Step 1: Check Pre-Break-in RPM Connect the motor to your power source and check the baseline RPM using a measurement app or tachometer before starting the break-in process. Step 2: Apply the Oil Disconnect the motor from the power source. Apply 1 to 2 drops of the break-in oil directly onto the commutator (the copper cylinder where the carbon brushes make contact) through the motor's cooling holes. Pro Tip:Do not over-apply. A small amount is enough to penetrate the brushes. Turn the motor shaft by hand a few times to spread the oil evenly. Step 3: Break-in Run Connect the motor to your power supply. Run the motor at a low to medium voltage (e.g., 2.4V to 3.0V) for about 3 to 5 minutes in regular rotation, then reverse the polarity and run for another 3 to 5 minutes. (Note: Please adjust the voltage and time according to your own preferred break-in method.) Step 4: Flush the Carbon Dust ⚠️ CRITICAL STEP Because Dash motors use carbon brushes, the break-in process will produce a large amount of black carbon dust. Leaving this dust inside can cause short circuits or slow down the motor. Flush out the black dirt from the commutator area either by injecting additional break-in oil or by using a plastic-safe liquid cleaner (must be room temperature to prevent condensation) until the runoff becomes clear. (Warning: Be careful when choosing a liquid cleaner. Some cleaners are unsuitable for motors and can negatively affect performance, such as causing a drop in RPM.) Step 5: Final Lubrication & Coating Once the motor break-in is complete, apply 1 drop of a high-quality commutator protector (such as Motor Conditioner BLACK COMMU-SEALER by PLM LUBRICANTS) to protect the freshly exposed copper surface from oxidation (oxide film) and maintain peak performance. [ Safety Notes ] Always use in a well-ventilated area. Flammable. Keep away from fire, sparks, or open flames. Wear safety glasses if necessary to prevent splashed oil or cleaner from entering your eyes. Avoid inhaling vaporized oil. Strict adult supervision is required when used by children.
